CROWN POINT, Ind. — The Indiana Independent Automobile Dealers Association recently announced its 2009 Joe Krier Quality Dealer of the Year award winner.
Taking home the honor is David Baldwin, of Best Deal Auto Sales in Fort Wayne, Ind.
IIADA's yearly award is based on several attributes:
1. The dealership must be consumer oriented.
2. The dealer must have a record of good business decisions based on honesty and integrity.
3. The dealership must represent itself as a civic leader within the community.
Baldwin said that the dealership's simple and straightforward business philosophy helped in winning the award this year.
"Of all the different car dealers in the area, for me, it's just the way we conduct business," said Baldwin.
"Being honest and straightforward with everybody we talk to — I think that's what makes us who we are," he continued.
"There are a lot of gimmicks in the car business, and we don't do any of them," he stated.
The dealership celebrated its 10-year anniversary this year. The store has grown from one lot with seven cars, to four locations offering more than 300 vehicles in the Indiana cities of Auburn, Warsaw and Fort Wayne, including a service garage that opened in January 2008 next to Best Deals' The Import Store.
The dealership is a family-run business with Baldwin's oldest son running the original store with him and, over the years, his other three sons joining the business. Likewise, all of Baldwin's daughter-in-laws are involved.
The dealership features the "Best Deal Price" on the window of every vehicle for sale, according to the company, letting customers know up front what the actual price is for each one.
As a civic leader, Baldwin has served as president of the Jackson Township Athletic Association and he also supports local baseball and softball teams. Additionally, he is involved with the Muscular Dystrophy Association and the local Humane Shelter.
IIADA noted that Best Deal Auto Sales will represent Indiana at the National Independent Automobile Dealers Association convention in Las Vegas in June 2010.
