ATLANTA (June 8, 2006) -- Ray Fidel, chief executive officer of DriveTime, was announced Wednesday as the recipient of the Top Independent Retailer Award from Auto Dealer Monthly and AutoTrader.com.
Ray Lyle, owner of Nice Cars in the Chattanooga and Northern Georgia area and the 2005 National Independent Automobile Dealers Association Quality Dealer of the Year winner, earned the No. 2 spot on the Top 50 list.
According to AutoTrader.com, which sponsored the Auto Dealer Monthly Top 50 Independent Retailer Awards, DriveTime was recognized for selling 54,778 retail units in 2005 at its 93 locations.
Officials noted that all privately held independent dealers in the United States were eligible, and the rankings were based on retail sales units by volume. Executives added that Auto Dealer Monthly worked with various vendors for recommendations, as well as with state NIADA associations. However, they noted that dealers were ultimately responsible for submitting their information.
"The majority of the top performing dealers on our site are independently owned, so we wanted to sponsor this award and show our support for their hard work and innovative ideas," said Chip Perry, president and chief executive officer of AutoTrader.com.
Auto Dealer Monthly released the full list of the top 50 ranked independent dealers in its June publication. A complete list of the Top 50 Independent Retailers can also be found at http://www.autodealerdaily.com/2006Independent.pdf.
