Avis & OPENLANE Broaden Wholesale Partnership

Dealers looking for inventory — especially Ford models — from the Avis Budget Group now can secure units thanks to a revamped partnership with OPENLANE.

Lot management now can scour Avis Budget Group vehicles based on make, model or vehicle identification number directly from Avis and Budget locations with full condition reports provided by Alliance Inspection Management.

The companies believe the enhanced offering can provide dealers with more options, including a large selection of Ford vehicles, as well as the ability to receive purchased units faster.

Until now, dealers had the option to purchase vehicles only in bulk quantities using OPENLANE's Order in Fleet tool.

“Avis Budget Group vehicles are quality vehicles and have always been great inventory for us,” noted B.J. Wagner, used-vehicle buyer for Capitol Ford.

“With the great range of vehicles available anytime, the wide selection of Ford vehicles and the option of purchasing vehicles individually, it’s a perfect solution,” Wagner continued. “The process greatly helps my sales cycles and enables me to run my business more efficiently, and therefore, more profitably.”

Greg Thibault, vice president of fleet sales for Avis Budget Group, recounted that “We have been partners with OPENLANE since 2007 and, in that time, we have created a valuable relationship that gives us access to a much wider network of dealers looking to buy our vehicles.

“We have benefited from the partnership with faster sales cycles and reduced administration efforts. We look forward to continued growth,” Thibault went on to say.

Peter Kelly, president of OPENLANE, echoed a similar sentiment, adding, “We are excited to expand our partnership with Avis Budget and offer dealers the ability to purchase rental vehicles with full condition reports.

“It’s a win-win for dealers as they now have the choice of searching, bidding and buying the exact vehicle for their lots or using the Order in Fleet tool to pre-order and bulk-buy rental vehicles,” Kelly insisted. “It’s the best of both worlds and continues our mission of being the most efficient online wholesale auction in the industry.”

The shift onto the Internet is not limited to consumers. The efficiencies of technology driven processes have only just begun to impact the wholesale sector. Open Lane is in the right place at the right time to provide easier access to high demand vehicles at a time when new car dealers are dependent on used vehicles sales. Their real challenge will be to keep up in the technology race as new online auction processes become available that provide improved transparency between buyers and sellers. This is just the tip of the iceberg!
