McLEAN, Va. -

As gas prices have begun a slow downward trickle, all wholesale segment prices are expected to soften this week, except for the large pickup segment, according to NADA Used Car Guide.

This segment is expected to see a slight rise of 0.3 percent, or $50.

And this shift comes right after the Energy Information Administration data released this Monday showed the average price of regular grade gasoline (all formulations) fell from $3.85 to $3.82 last week.

The compact utility segment is expected to see the biggest declines over the course of the current week as prices are expected to drop by 1.3 percent, or $175, according to NADA UCG.

“Following closely behind will be the midsize van segment, which is also expected to decline by 1.3 percent, or $150,” officials said.

Also set to see declines this week are the midsize car and luxury car segment, which are expected to see declines of $100 over the course of the current week, while the compact car and large SUV segments are expected to drop by $75 apiece.

Next up, the midsize utility segment is expected to decline by $50, “while the luxury utility segment is positioned to see some of the smallest declines over the course of the current week as prices are expected to drop by 0.1 percent, or $25,” NADA UCG said.

As for the two-week average rate of depreciation,  the midsize van segment saw the biggest drop at 2.5 percent,  followed by the midsize car segment at 1.9 percent.

Four- and two-week AuctionNet wholesale average prices are created by collecting all AuctionNet records for vehicles  up to five years of age for a specified period of time.  Prices are then adjusted for changes in mileage and mix.

Current week prices are based on NADA's proprietary used-vehicle value model which includes assumptions for new-vehicle prices, used-vehicle supply, gasoline prices, and other economic factors.
