TAMPA, Fla. -

BB&T today announced its 2012 Auction of the Year, an auction location it says is known for setting the bar high.

Named the 2012 Auction of the Year is Manheim Tampa, recognized for providing top sales results, sales percentage and expenses relative to liquidation for both BB&T and its affiliate, Regional Acceptance.

Other eligibility requirements considered include customer service, facility management and operational effectiveness, BB&T officials said.

“Manheim Tampa is a sale that always sets the bar for which the rest of our auctions shoot,” said Neil Boardman, BB&T asset remarketing manager. “I expect to see them at the top of the rankings each month.

“While some may see this as an unrealistic benchmark, the entire staff at Manheim Tampa does so well that it has become the norm. They serve as great ambassadors to the auto remarketing industry and it is a privilege to partner with such a well-revered organization.”

Manheim Tampa consistently places in the top three positions for several different awards, said BB&T, which uses approximately 30 automobile, marine and recreational vehicle auctions nationwide to sell repossessed vehicles.

Mark Wiley, Manheim Tampa general manager, said, “Manheim Tampa is both proud and honored to receive this award. We have always considered BB&T a great business partner, and with hard work and dedication to the account comes great rewards. We look forward to a long-lasting relationship with BB&T.”

Other recognitions made by BB&T in 2012 includes the Most Improved Auction Award, presented to Greenville Auto Auction of Greenville, N.C. This recognizes the auction for above-average scores in net profitability among all auctions, and the largest net profitability increase on an average basis.

ADESA Lexington earned the BB&T Auction Ironman Award, given to the auction that consistently places in the top three positions for all reporting categories each month throughout the year.
