WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J. -

Although October’s certified pre-owned selling rate continued a recent slowdown from the record pace seen earlier this year, CPO sales last month still beat year-ago levels by more than 20 percent and put the year-to-date sum at 1.76 million units, according to Autodata Corp.

Overall, there were 177,820 certified sales last month. This marked a 20.6-percent year-over-year improvement and a 13.1-percent hike from September.

Autodata indicated that October had 27 selling days, compared to 26 a year ago and 23 in September. The firm pointed out that September and October 2013 selling rates are down from the record pace in preceding months.

However, it’s still shaping up to be a banner year for CPO. Through 10 months, year-to-date sales are ahead 15.3 percent over the same period of 2012.

In fact, there have already been more certified vehicles sold in 2013 than in all of 2011 (yearly sales of 1.74 million), which was a best-ever year at the time.

In 2012, full-year certified sales broke that record and came in at 1.83 million units.
