Based on selling days – June 2012 had 27; June 2011 had 26 — the daily selling rate climbed 4.9 percent. Through June, there have been 917,004 certified vehicles sold, compared to 868,358 CPO sales in the first half of 2011.

Several automakers shared with Auto Remarketing how their respecitve brands fared during August, starting with Honda and Acura.

“For Honda, June was our all-time best CPO sales month ever — with strong remaining inventory. In fact, we are trending to exceed our 2011 year-end total, our best year ever,” said American Honda’s Brian Butts, who recently took over for the retiring Dan Crowe.

“Our partnership with Honda Financial Services to offer 1.9 percent, and 2.9 percent financing has resulted in increased certified traffic and the results have shown,” he added.

Butts continued: “For June, Acura reported its second best pre-owned month in 2012 and continues to exceed our monthly objective. Our 1.9-percent and 2.9-percentfinancing has helped to drive traffic to our dealers.”

Meanwhile, Volkswagen had its best-ever June and hit its highest first-half sales in the program’s history. What’s more, the first two quarters was the best six-month stretch VW has ever had in CPO, according to the automaker.

Commenting on the month, Steve Saward, department head of pre-owned sales and corporate fleet at BMW of North America, said that “the pre-owned business — both certified and non-certified — continued at a robust pace during June.

“While supplies remain tight, particularly in the 2009 and 2010 model years that represent the overwhelming majority of our off lease cars, it appears that used car prices have definitely peaked, and come off slightly from their highs,” said Saward.

“Consumers continue to be price and payment sensitive, and an attractive interest rate, or some other form of enticement, remains crucial to closing the deal.
Fortunately, the strong residual values are supporting our efforts to bring current customers back into the store,” he continued.

“Combined with a comprehensive portfolio of new car offers, these strong values are supporting our efforts to maintain ales momentum as we go into the summer vacation period,” Saward added. “Availability of off lease models will remain restricted for the foreseeable future, with little prolonged, significant improvement likely until the second half of 2013.”

“With setting an all-time June new retail sales month of 51,326 units and all-time first half of the year January–June sales record of 288,707 units, we are very pleased to see the Kia CPO sales match the continued growth that our new-car sales have seen this year, proving that a strong CPO program will add value to your new-car sales as you grow the overall brand,” said David Carp, director of fleet & remarketing at Kia Motors America.
