Amid the industry’s second-strongest certified pre-owned sales month in history, it appears the CPO segment was once again a strong selling tool for dealers throughout a bevy of OEM programs.

Autodata Corp. reported all-time CPO sales records at Ford, Kia, Mini and Subaru, and several others were reporting best-ever May results.

Here’s a complete breakdown from Autodata Corp. and the automakers themselves on how CPO sales shook out in May for various brands:

Starting things off with Ford, the automaker’s brands combined to sell 20,708 CPO units for the month (up 39.9 percent year-over-year), which pushed the year-to-date sum to 89,839 sales (up 35 percent).

Ford/Mercury CPO sales came in at 18,750 units for the month, and reached 81,140 units year-to-date. Lincoln certified sales reached 1,958 units in May. Through five months, it sold 8,699.

Next up, General Motors reported 29,278 certified sales of Buick, Chevrolet, GMC, Pontiac and Saturn vehicles in May, which was a 23.1-percent increase from a year earlier.

Year-to-date sales reached 140,993 units, an 18.5-percent lift.

Cadillac certified sales were up 19.5 percent in May at 1,624 units. Through May, its dealers have moved 7,940 CPO units (up 7.1 percent).

At Chrysler, its brands moved a total of 11,300 certified vehicles during the month (up 18.2 percent) with sales through five months at 50,329 units (up 3.9 percent).

By division, Dodge moved 5,157 certified vehicles in May (up 11.4 percent), Chrysler sold 2,419 certified vehicles (up 32.8 percent) and Jeep dealers posted 3,724 sales (up 19.7 percent).

Fiat — which is not included in the aforementioned Chrysler Group results — sold 31 certified cars in May.

At Honda, the namesake division’s CPO sales came in at 22,586 units for May (up 6.4 percent) while Acura’s certified sales reached 3,934 units (down 0.2 percent). Through five months, Honda moved 101,153 CPO vehicles (up 1.2 percent) with Acura selling 17,050 (down 4 percent).

Next up, Nissan dealers sold 10,264 certified vehicles in May (up 17.3 percent), with Infiniti dealers selling 990 (down 8 percent).  Nissan’s year-to-date sales were up 10.4 percent at 47,122 units, and Infiniti’s were down 16.9 percent at 4,619 vehicles.

Toyota’s May CPO sales totaled 32,359 units (up16.3 percent), and its year-to-date sum reached 152,579 units (up 12.9 percent).

Lexus sold 6,709 CPO vehicles in May, compared to 5,901 CPO sales in May 2012. Year-to-date sales stood at 30,122, up from 28,966 in the same period of 2012.

Hyundai reported 6,696 certified sales in May (up 16.9 percent year-over-year). Through five months, it had moved 30,648 CPO units for a 14.1-percent hike.

Kia sold 2,865 certified vehicles in May for an 87.5-percent hike, with year-to-date sales climbing 78.6 percent at 12,490 units.

Mazda notched 3,104 certified sales in May, which marked a 51.6-percent year-over-year increase. As of the end of May, Mazda had reached14,622 certified sales year-to-date for a 54.6-percent gain.

Subaru’s dealers had 3,075 CPO sales in May (up 49.7 percent) and year-to-date sales were at 13,525 units (up 41.1 percent).

Volkswagen sold 9,069 certified units in May for a 19.2-percent hike. Certified sales through five months of 2013 climbed nearly 13 percent at 41,057 units.

Audi hit 3,475 certified sales for the month, compared to 3,346 CPO units moved a year ago. Through May, it tallied 15,786 certified sales, up from 14,995 in the year-ago time frame.

BMW’s CPO sales total for May was 7,501 units (up 14.3 percent) and its year-to-date sum was 33,815 (up 8.2 percent).
Mercedes-Benz posted 8,107 CPO sales (up 24.2 percent) for May, increasing its yearly total to 41,198 units through five months (up 25.5 percent).

Volvo dealers sold 886 certified cars during the month (down 19.5 percent) and its five-month sales were at 4,672 units (down 4.1 percent).

Porsche CPO sales were at 857 units for May (down1.3 percent) and 4,050 units year-to-date (up 0.7 percent).

Mini had 631 certified sales in May (up 125.4 percent), and through five months, it sold 2,516 CPO units (up 116.5 percent).

Mitsubishi sold 49 CPO units in May, down from 55 a year earlier.   Maserati hit 46 certified sales in May and Smart had six CPO sales.

Bentley was estimated to have sold 30 certified vehicles, Jaguar was estimated to have moved 285, and Land Rover’s CPO sales were projected at 580.
