SANTA MONICA, Calif. -

Coming out of last week’s Los Angeles Auto Show, Edmunds.com spotted what it believed to be a fierce battle in the crossover SUV between two new models — the 2013 Ford Escape and the 2012 Honda CR-V.

If shopper interest on their site is any indication, Edmunds.com analysts contend the Escape clearly won the post-show contest.

Edmunds.com traffic data showed the Escape enjoyed a 95-percent lift in average consideration in the days following its unveil last Wednesday.

The CR-V, meanwhile, saw a jump of just 25 percent over the same period, according to Edmunds.com senior analyst Jessica Caldwell.

“This is just one of many battles to come in the next 12 to14 months within the crossover SUV segment,” Caldwell pointed out.

“The Escape and CR-V will fight to outdo each other, but they’ll also have a lot of other competitors in an increasingly strong segment that includes other popular choices like the Chevy Equinox, Nissan Rogue and Toyota RAV4,” she went on to say.

While the Escape beat out its segment competition, it came in third among vehicles that made their Los Angeles Auto Show debuts and enjoyed the biggest jump in average daily consideration.

The new Cadillac XTS posted the highest consideration lift of any model debuting at the event. Edmunds.com pegged the rise at 101 percent.

Edmunds’ InsideLine.com praised the new Cadillac’s CUE technology system that “looks straight out of Stuttgart or Munich.”

Other debuts enjoying a significant week-over-week lift include the Hyundai Azera (up 96 percent), Mazda CX-5 (up 86 percent) and Infiniti JX (up 49 percent).

Analysts noted the change in average daily consideration compared Nov. 9–13 to Nov. 16–20.
