RALEIGH, N.C. -

MaxPoint, a company that helps retailers and brands drive local in-store sales, leveraged what officials insisted were billions of data points from neighborhoods across the United States to determine the Top 10 markets for minivans and SUVs.

The company found that minivan families are typically between the ages of 35 and 55, hold a college degree and have incomes that exceed $100,000 a year.

MaxPoint also discovered these families trend high on interest in topics such as new technology, business and finance, the economy, sports, eco-friendly living and home improvement.

As a result, officials found the U.S. cities with a high concentration of minivan families are:

—Cleveland
—Des Moines, Iowa
—Minneapolis
—Orlando, Fla.
—Philadelphia
—Raleigh, N.C.
—San Francisco
—Seattle
—Springfield, Mass.
—Toledo, Ohio

Like their minivan family counterparts, MaxPoint indicated SUV families usually have an income of $100,000 or more per year and hold college degrees.

However, officials found that SUV buyers are normally older than 45, are married and own a home. The company said these families trend high on interest in topics such as extreme sports, food and drink trends, golf and running.

So, the company determined the U.S. cities with a high concentration of SUV families are:

—Albuquerque, N.M.
—Anchorage, Alaska
—Atlanta
—Boston
—Chicago
—Dallas
—Denver
—Houston
—Sacramento, Calif.
—San Diego

To compile these lists, MaxPoint chief operating officer Gretchen Joyce explained the company analyzed its data that’s gathered through offline point-of-sale data, social media, videos, music, local Web pages and online magazines.

“The automotive industry is a behemoth when it comes to advertising to consumers,” Joyce said.

“We’ve created a more successful and targeted way for auto advertisers to reach car buyers with relevant ads and offers, eliminating costly and ineffective practices of the past,” she continued. “MaxPoint helps these advertisers understand which consumers in which neighborhoods are interested in specific makes and models.”
