MONCKS CORNER, S.C. -

Two new records were set by Charleston Auto Auction, at its 10th annual Luau/Pig Pickin’ & Car Sale, held June 14.

The auction hosted featured more than 1,600 vehicles, a record for the company, along with 800 dealers and $35,000 in cash and prizes, auction officials reported.

Dealers began the auction day with a pig pickin’ breakfast and live music, as online attendees set another record for CAA, with more than 150 dealers signing online via simulcast to buy vehicles offered.

The sale included more than 570 franchise dealer trades from more than 30 new car stores; more than 400 units for institutional accounts; and more than 700 units for independent dealers and wholesalers’ consignment, the company said.

The auction closed with a drawing of 24 dealers who split $35,000 in cash and prizes, including three different $5,000 cash winners. Their names were selected from a barrel holding tickets for every vehicle bought or sold over the previous seven weeks.

“Every year we seem to set a record at the Luau Sale and this year was no exception,” said Laura Taylor, general manager of Charleston Auto Auction. “Both buyers and sellers left happy … not to mention the dealers who split the $35,000 in cash and prizes.”
