SEATTLE -

Now that online marketplace Shift has launched its first Washington-state market in Seattle, customers in that area will be able to sell cars to Shift directly through use of its “brought-to-you” service.

For Shift, which is based in California, the service will be available to consumers within the Seattle greater metropolitan area. That includes the cities of Everett, Bellevue and Tacoma, for appointments that began on Monday.

Shift explained how selling works on its marketplace, noting that to sell a vehicle, the car owner begins by answering a short series of questions at Shift.com about his or her car.

That allows Shift’s proprietary pricing system to determine the fair-market value and generate an instant estimate.

At that time, the customer can schedule an evaluation, which involves Shift dispatching a concierge to the customer’s location to inspect the car, make any necessary adjustments to the estimate, and produce a final offer.

Once the customer accepts the offer, the concierge will help with the transaction. The company will complete all necessary DMV paperwork and payment information digitally on the spot.

The entire evaluation and transaction appointment takes an average of one hour.

“As a Seattle resident, I am proud to announce we are bringing these services to the community,” Shift's director of operations programs Christopher Barton said in a news release.

Barton continued, “We’ve seen the benefits and value Shift brings to our customers and we’re thrilled to be expanding it in the Pacific Northwest.”
