LAS VEGAS -

Since 2017, the Used Car Week logo has been a circle, with stripes of different colors lining the perimeter, continually looping into the next to form the shape of a gear on the interior.

The colors represent the individual conferences and topic focus areas of Used Car Week. The fact that each stripe feeds into the next reinforces the notion that each piece of the used-car industry — be it retail, finance, repo/recovery, remarketing and beyond — can affect other areas of the business.

No industry, or entity within an industry, exists in a silo.

What happens in auto finance impacts auto retail.

The regulations on repo/recovery can affect the remarketing process.

The best practices in online can be applied to brick-and-mortar, and vice versa.

What is relevant to a dealer or auto-finance executive could also be relevant to an auto auction or tech startup.

That is why Used Car Week — which is being held Nov. 11-15 in Las Vegas — is set up the way it is.

And it’s why our tagline this year is, “Uniting the Industry.”

Sure, the First Block includes three conferences: Auto Fin Con, Pre-Owned Con and Repo Con, each with their own dedicated workshops and sessions.

But chances are, agenda content within each of those conferences is applicable to your business, and certainly to the industry at large.

So, if you’re at Used Car Week largely for one of these individual conferences, we’d encourage you to also attend sessions from the others. Mix it up.

The second half of the week, of course, is the National Remarketing Conference, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary.

While the 30,000-foot view might be wholesale, the implications of the session topics apply throughout the used-car business and auto industry at large: the shift to mobility, residual values, macroeconomic trends, digitization in used cars, using data to create efficiencies, the needs of buyers and sellers, the innovation being employed on the ground at brick-and-mortar auctions.

Wednesday of Used Car Week, as usual, is our “moving day,” where the First Block shifts to the Second Block.

And this year, we are debuting the Used Car Week Leadership Luncheon on Wednesday to connect the First and Second Blocks.

In addition to a presentation from Jennifer Costabile, who is general director of fleet marketing, rental sales and remarketing at General Motors, the luncheon will recognize the inaugural class of Women in Retail, the second annual Women in Auto Finance class — and Women in Remarketing, celebrating its 10th anniversary.

Those honorees and their respective companies represent the interdependent segments of the used-car industry.

Much like Used Car Week as a whole.

As our tagline goes, again, our aim is “Uniting the Industry.”
