DETROIT -
Two weeks after announcing that OnStar will soon be available as an aftermarket rearview mirror, General Motors revealed Tuesday that it has named a new president of this division to replace Christopher Preuss.
Stepping into the role on Feb. 1 will be Linda Marshall, executive director of OnStar’s global business strategy and development since November.
Preuss is stepping down from the post and ending his time with GM and is expected to launch his own communications consultancy practice.

News of a new OnStar president comes on the heels of GM announcing it will offer OnStar on older GM models and other makes. The rearview mirror will debut at Best Buy this spring and will eventually expand to other retailers.

“As we continue to evolve the OnStar brand and bring new features to our customers, we believe Linda’s deep experience can take the brand and platform to the next level,” shared Stephen Girsky, vice chairman of corporate strategy and business development.
"Over the past year, Chris was instrumental in helping create a clear vision and strategy for aligning OnStar with GM infotainment plans and entering the retail market,” he added. “We thank Chris for his many contributions to GM and wish him every success.”
Sharing some of Marshall’s experience, officials noted that she has served as Revel Wireless’ chief operating officer before coming aboard at OnStar in the fall.
Her background in the telecommunications field goes back more than two decades. She has served in senior executive-level positions with Sprint Nextel as well as Verizon Wireless.
Marshall’s accolades include being recognized in 1997 on Crain’s “Top 100 Women” list and the receiving the same honor four years later.
She also earned a spot on the 1997 list of “Most Recognized 15 Percent Women in Wireless.”
