McLEAN, Va. — Auto industry entities are continuing to push initiatives intended to provide aid to earthquake-ravaged Haiti, including a new project endorsed by the National Automobile Dealers Association.

The program, dubbed "100 Trucks for Haiti," already has the support of NADA and Starling Chevrolet in St. Cloud, Fla., as a way to benefit the Clinton-Bush Haiti Fund

The units that are collected will be used to move food and supplies to Haiti's inland areas where the terrain can vary greatly. New or used units are welcomed.

"To ensure that the people of Haiti can move along the path to recovery, we urgently need your help in mobilizing a fleet of pickup and cargo trucks to bring food and life-saving supplies to Haitian families," NADA officials stressed.

With so many Haiti aid programs already in motion, NADA chairman John McEleney pointed out how 100 Trucks for Haiti can be a unique way for dealers to help.

"The road to recovery in Haiti is long, but America's new car and truck dealers can make a difference," McEleney noted.

Speaking at the World Economic Conference recently in Davos, Switzerland, President Bill Clinton said Haiti needed 100 light trucks "yesterday."

Dealers who are interested in making a tax-deductible contribution of a small truck or cargo truck or a light pickup truck can e-mail trucks@clintonfoundation.org.

"The most urgent need is for rough-terrain vehicles, small trucks and cargo trucks and pickup trucks, new or used," NADA officials pointed out.

"They are more maneuverable and better suited to deliver food and supplies to the diverse regions of Haiti," they went on to say.

FLD Gives to Red Cross for Haiti

FLD, one of the largest privately held remarketing companies in North America, recently announced how it matched employee donations to the American Red Cross for Haiti earthquake relief.

FLD executives matched employee contributions five-to-one and challenged their partners, vendors and associates to contribute to the American Red Cross or to a charity of their choice working for relief in Haiti.

"Our Haitian employees were relieved to learn that their relatives were OK, but they all know someone who was affected by this terrible tragedy," explained Ron Sanders, chief executive officer of FLD.

"We hope that our donation to the Red Cross will in a small way help in the recovery of Haiti and its people," Sanders added.
