McLEAN, Va. -

After months of declines, auction prices are expected to increase slightly this week.

According to NADA Used Car Guide, prices are predicted to rise by an average of 0.2 percent, or $25, versus the two-week average.

But the increases most likely won’t be anything to worry about for dealers and buyers.

“Across the board, price movement will be relatively mild,” said David Paris, automotive analyst for NADA UCG.

The biggest gains are expected in the large pickup segment, which has seen stronger than average retention rates over the course of 2013.

Prices in this segment are expected to rise by 0.8 percent, or $150.

NADA UCG is predicting midsize vans will follow with price growth of 0.6 percent, or $75.

And compact utilities are expected to see a 0.4 percent or $50 lift in prices.

Large SUVs, mid-size cars and mid-size utilities are each expected to grow by around 0.2 percent apiece, Paris reported.

For declines, luxury cars are predicted to see the biggest dollar drop for the week at 0.5 percent, or $100.

Compact cars are also expected to decline by 0.5 percent or $50 — not surprising, as gas prices are coming in at a steady $3.27 per gallon, according to Energy Information Administration data released this week.

Lastly, luxury utilities are also expected to decrease by around 0.1 percent, or $25.

Four- and two-week AuctionNet wholesale average prices are created by collecting all AuctionNet records for vehicles  up to five years of age for a specified period of time.  Prices are then adjusted for changes in mileage and mix.

Current week prices are based on NADA's proprietary used-vehicle value model which includes assumptions for new-vehicle prices, used-vehicle supply, gasoline prices, and other economic factors.
