McLEAN, Va. -

This Halloween week, all vehicle segments are expected to see prices drop in the lanes, according to NADA Used Car Guide’s predictions.

At the industry level, wholesale prices are expected to drop by 0.7 percent, or $100.

NADA UCG predicts that none of the segments will buck this declining trend, with all segments expected to decline this week between a range of 0.1 percent and 1.6 percent.

The biggest drops will be in the luxury car and midsize utility segments, NADA UCG said, with 1.6-percent drops expected.

Next up, compact cars and midsize vans are expected to see prices fall by 0.8 percent, just slightly over the industry average.

On the other side of the spectrum, the compact utility, midsize car and large SUV segments are expected to see a smaller loss of 0.6 percent this week.

And expected to experience the strongest retention this week is the luxury utility and large pickup segments; NADA UCG said these segments will see declines of around 0.2 percent and 0.1 percent, respectively.

Last week, trends were similar, as three pickup segments came in with better retention rates week-over-week, reported Ricky Beggs, editorial director and senior vice president of Black Book.

The compact pickups at -$51, the midsize pickups at -$30 and the full-size pickups at -$55, were all lower average changes this past week than the prior week, and also better than the -$68 overall average segment change level for trucks, according to the latest “Beggs on the Used Car Market” video report.

Going back to NADA's data, NADA UCG automotive analyst David Paris said: “Overall losses remain mild for a majority of the segments.”

Four- and two-week AuctionNet wholesale average prices are created by collecting all AuctionNet records for vehicles  up to five years of age for a specified period of time.  Prices are then adjusted for changes in mileage and mix.

Current week prices are based on NADA's proprietary used-vehicle value model which includes assumptions for new-vehicle prices, used-vehicle supply, gasoline prices, and other economic factors.
