McLEAN, Va. -

The prices in the lanes are expected to remain relatively stable this week, according to NADA Used Car Guide analysts, perhaps indicating the start to a downward trend in values this month.

NADA UCG analyst David Paris said,  “Indicators point towards a relatively flat week again, with a slight $25 uptick overall. We still expect things to cool off in the lanes.”

Over the course of April, NADA said there likely will be a slight decline in the industry average auction prices — perhaps welcome news to dealers as rates rose for most all of February and March.

Breaking it down by segment, more positive growth is expected in the large SUV segment, as average prices are positioned to increase by 0.3 percent, or $75.

As weather warms up, once again, the compact car segment is still showing strength as prices for the current week are expected to grow by a slight 0.4 percent, or $50.

On the other hand, the biggest declines should be seen in the midsize car segment at 0.4 percent, or $50, followed by the midsize van segment at 0.3 percent, or $50, NADA UCG reported.

On the highline side, as a collective, the  luxury car and luxury utility segments are each expected to see declines around 0.2 percent.

Four- and two-week AuctionNet wholesale average prices are created by collecting all AuctionNet records for vehicles  up to five years of age for a specified period of time.  Prices are then adjusted for changes in mileage and mix.

Current week prices are based on NADA's proprietary used-vehicle value model which includes assumptions for new-vehicle prices, used-vehicle supply, gasoline prices and other economic factors.
