McLEAN, Va. -

After predicting an increase of $100 in each the two previous weeks, NADA Used Car Guide expects wholesale prices to continue to rise, but at a slightly slower rate this time around.

At the industry level, used values are projected to climb by 0.5 percent, or $75, relative to the two-week average.

And with gas prices sitting high at an average of $3.63 per gallon, according to Energy Information Administration data released this week, the compact car segment is expected to see the biggest price increase.

This small-car segment is expected to see a price spike of 0.9 percent, or $100.

NADA UCG expects the compact utility and midsize utility segments to follow closely behind with a price increases of 0.7 percent each.

And even the large pickup segment, which showed price declines in July, is picking back up. NADA UCG is predicting prices in this segment will rise by 0.5 percent, or $75.

Midsize Cars and midsize Vans are expected to increase by a slight 0.4 percent, or $50, apiece.

The luxury car segment is also expected to rise a bit this week, with a predicted increase of 0.2 percent, or $50.

Lastly, the only segment expected to see any declines are ;arge SUVs, but their expected drop of 0.2 percent, or $50, “will be barely perceptible,” NADA UCG officials said.

Four- and two-week AuctionNet wholesale average prices are created by collecting all AuctionNet records for vehicles  up to five years of age for a specified period of time.  Prices are then adjusted for changes in mileage and mix.

Current week prices are based on NADA's proprietary used-vehicle value model which includes assumptions for new-vehicle prices, used-vehicle supply, gasoline prices and other economic factors.
