NADA UCG: Auction Prices Set to See Slight Rise, Trend to Continue into Early March
After what NADA Used Car Guide called a slight “plateau” in the lanes since the new year began auction prices as a whole are expected to increase slightly over the course of the current week.
According to NADA UCG, the overall industry average price is expected to grow by 0.2 percent, or $25, versus last week.
Though slight, officials expect the trend to continue into early spring.
“NADA still expects to see an increase in average wholesale prices in the middle to late part of this month through March, at which time we should see the peak in wholesale values,” NADA UCG said.
Though most segments are expected to see a slight rise, used prices for the large SUV segment are expected to decline again this week. Specifically, prices should fall 0.1 percent, or $25, NADA UCG repoted.
The luxury car segment is also expected to decline slightly to the tune of 0.1 percent, or $25, as well.
The midsize utility segment is projected to remain flat compared to its two-week average, officials added.
“All remaining segments are expected to increase by around $25 as we begin to see a bit of a lift in prices for the spring selling season,” NADA UCG reported.
Four- and two-week AuctionNet wholesale average prices are created by collecting all AuctionNet records for vehicles up to five years of age for a specified period of time. Prices are then adjusted for changes in mileage and mix.
Current week prices are based on NADA's proprietary used-vehicle value model which includes assumptions for new-vehicle prices, used-vehicle supply, gasoline prices and other economic factors.
