McLEAN, Va. -

Auction values are expected to continue their slow decline this week, with rates predicted to fall by 0.2 percent, or $25, relative to the two-week average.

According to NADA Used Car Guide data, the only segment expected to see any price appreciation  will be large pickups, “which continue to show strength in the marketplace,” officials said. NADA UCG predicts this segment will see a gain of 0.2 percent, or $50.

Another segment which may prove to be an outlier this week is luxury cars, whose prices are predicted to remain flat.

On the other hand, compact cars are expected to decline the most over the course of the current week, with decreases averaging 0.7 percent, or $75.

Midsize cars will follow right behind, NADA UCG said, and declines should average 0.6 percent, or $75.

The midsize van segment is also expected to see a 0.5-percent ($75) slip.

All remaining NADA segments are expected to decline slightly, with each category's respective decline at 0.3 percent or less, officials shared.

Four- and two-week AuctionNet wholesale average prices are created by collecting all AuctionNet records for vehicles  up to five years of age for a specified period of time.  Prices are then adjusted for changes in mileage and mix.

Current week prices are based on NADA's proprietary used-vehicle value model which includes assumptions for new-vehicle prices, used-vehicle supply, gasoline prices and other economic factors.
