McLEAN, Va. -

As gas prices continue to spike, NADA Used Car Guide notes that the industry isn’t feeling much of an effect in the lanes quite yet. But wholesale prices for some of the larger segments are set to drop. The organization predicts that the luxury utility segment’s wholesale prices will see the biggest drops over the course of this week.

Prices for this segment are expected to fall around 1.5 percent, or $375.  The two-week average rate of depreciation for the luxury utility segment also saw the biggest drop among the segments NADA UCG tracks, dropping 1.1 percent.

Another segment that is perhaps also being hurt by loss of consumer interest due to high gas rates, the midsize van segment is also expected to drop 1.3 percent, or $175.

And per Energy Information Administration data released on Monday, the average price of regular grade gasoline (all formulations) increased seven cents from $3.65 to $3.72.

But NADA UCG noted that it seems the industry hasn’t felt much of a backlash from this trend.

“So far, the 36-cent increase in gasoline prices observed since early July has had little impact on both car and truck prices,” officials noted.

NADA UCG went on to not that two other segments are also expected to see “minor” declines this week;  the luxury car and midsize utility segments  should see drops around 0.4 percent apiece.

On the other hand, the compact utility segment is expected to grow by 0.5 percent, followed closely by the large pickup and large SUV segments at 0.3 percent apiece.

Lastly, both the compact car and midsize car segments are expected to see minor increased over the course of the current week, rising 0.2 percent, or $25, apiece.

Four- and two-week AuctionNet wholesale average prices are created by collecting all AuctionNet records for vehicles  up to five years of age for a specified period of time. Prices are then adjusted for changes in mileage and mix.

Current week prices are based on NADA’s proprietary used-vehicle value model which includes assumptions for new-vehicle prices, used-vehicle supply, gasoline prices, and other economic factors.
