McLEAN, Va. -

If used-car managers currently are looking for vehicles that have some hauling capacity — specifically large SUVs and pickups as well as midsize vans — they might be able to find some less expensive units based on the latest wholesale price projections from NADA Used Car Guide.

Analysts indicated the large SUV segment is once again expected to see some of the biggest declines during the course of the current week as prices are expected to drop by 1.1 percent or $250. They also mentioned midsize vans are expected to drop by 1.7 percent or $200 as late-model rental fleet volume continues to flood the market with additional units.

Meanwhile, NADA UCG said the large pickup segment is expected to see a decline of 0.8 percent or $150, while the midsize car and luxury utility segments are expected to soften by $125 apiece.

Elsewhere, analysts projected that compact car and compact utility segments should dip by a modest $75 a piece, while the midsize utility segment is expected to decline over the course of the current week to the tune of $50.

On the luxury side, the luxury car segment is projected to increase by 0.6 percent or $125.

Analysts also noted the two-week average rate of depreciation for the midsize van segment saw the biggest drop at 3.2 percent, followed by the compact car segment at 2.0 percent.

NADA UCG wrapped up its latest exclusive update to Auto Remarketing by touching on gas prices.

Per Energy Information Administration (EIA) data released on Monday, the average price of regular grade gasoline (all formulations) decreased by three cents from $3.83 to $3.80.

Four- and two-week AuctionNet wholesale average prices are created by collecting all AuctionNet records for vehicles up to five years of age for a specified period of time. Prices are then adjusted for changes in mileage and mix.

Current week prices are based on NADA’s proprietary used-vehicle value model which includes assumptions for new-vehicle prices, used-vehicle supply, gasoline prices, and other economic factors.
