McLEAN, Va. -

As gas prices ticked up another two cents, NADA Used Car Guide’s analysis of wholesale prices showed the movements for compact and midsize cars continue to go in opposite directions.

Analysts discovered that the midsize car segment is expected to see the biggest drops over the course of the current week as prices are expected to fall around 0.8 percent, or $100.

Following closely behind will be the luxury utility and luxury car segments, which are expected to decline by 0.7 percent apiece, according to NADA UCG.

Meanwhile, analysts noticed the compact car segment is expected to see slight increases to the tune of 0.2 percent, or $25.

These movements all come under the backdrop of gas prices continuing to be on the rise. Per Energy Information Administration data released on Monday, the average price of regular grade gasoline (all formulations) edged higher by two cents, rising from $3.49 to $3.51.

Elsewhere in NADA UCG’s latest wholesale price analysis, officials mentioned that the large SUV segment is projected to see smaller declines — around 0.5 percent — while the midsize van segment is forecasted to post a slight 0.2-percent decline.

Analysts think the midsize utility segment should increase by 0.7 percent, or $125. Furthermore, the large pickup and compact utility segments are forecasted to experience price rises of 0.5 percent apiece.

Finally, analysts added that the two-week average rate of depreciation for the midsize van segment saw the biggest drop at 2.5 percent followed by the luxury utility segment at 2.1 percent.

Four- and two-week AuctionNet wholesale average prices are created by collecting all AuctionNet records for vehicles up to five years of age for a specified period of time. Prices are then adjusted for changes in mileage and mix.

Current week prices are based on NADA’s proprietary used-vehicle value model which includes assumptions for new-vehicle prices, used-vehicle supply, gasoline prices and other economic factors.

Sharing more of its AuctionNet findings, NADA UCG provided the following chart to illustrate its data:
