McLEAN, Va. -

Wholesale prices are continuing down, with all but one segment expected to fall, according to NADA Used Car Guide.

The lone vehicle category where prices are expected to rise this week and buck the trend is the midsize utility segment, which is projected to see a slight uptick to the tune of 0.2 percent or $25, NADA UCG said.

On the other hand, the luxury utility segment is expected to see some of the biggest declines over the course of the current week, with prices forecasted to drop by 0.9 percent or $225.

And as gas prices continue to rise — Energy Information Administration data released this week showed the average price of regular grade gasoline (all formulations) increased from $3.80 to $3.85. — the midsize van and the compact utility segments are also expected to decline by $175 apiece.

Moreover, the two-week average rate of depreciation for the midsize van segment also saw the biggest drop at 2.8 percent, followed by the midsize car segment at 1.5 percent.

Moving along, “both the midsize car and luxury car segment are expected to see declines of $125 over the course of the current week, while the large pickup and large SUV segment also expected to experience modest declines around $75 and $50, respectively,” NADA UCG officials shared.

Wrapping up their commentary, analysts noted the compact car segment is expected to see the smallest decline over the course of the current week, as prices are expected to drop by 0.3 percent or $25.

Four- and two-week AuctionNet wholesale average prices are created by collecting all AuctionNet records for vehicles  up to five years of age for a specified period of time.  Prices are then adjusted for changes in mileage and mix.

Current week prices are based on NADA's proprietary used-vehicle value model which includes assumptions for new-vehicle prices, used-vehicle supply, gasoline prices and other economic factors.
