NADA UCG: Wholesale Prices Expected to Climb $100 This Week
Though gas prices continue their slow decline, fuel-efficient segment prices are expected to rise in the lanes this week.
NADA Used Car Guide predicts the compact car segment to see the biggest price increase, percentage-wise, with an expected hike of 0.9 percent (or $100).
Interestingly, per Energy Information Administration data released this week, the average price of regular grade gasoline (all formulations) fell from $3.71 to 3.70, continuing a downward trend see this month.
But as we usher in spring this week, many consumers may be turning their interest towards warm-weather vehicles and away from trucks and SUVs in the near future.
As a whole, NADA UCG expects industry wholesale price movement to experience a lift of 0.6 percent (or $100) this week.
“Across all segments, expected changes are nearly all positive with the exception of the large SUV segment which is expected to see a slight decline of 0.3 percent, or $75,” officials said.
The midsize van segment is also expected to see a decline of 1.6 percent ($250).
And NADA UCG officials explained in this particular segment, late-model Chrysler products saw some declines this week “which are pulling down the averages in that segment.”
Four- and two-week AuctionNet wholesale average prices are created by collecting all AuctionNet records for vehicles up to five years of age for a specified period of time. Prices are then adjusted for changes in mileage and mix.
Current week prices are based on NADA's proprietary used-vehicle value model which includes assumptions for new-vehicle prices, used-vehicle supply, gasoline prices, and other economic factors.
