McLEAN, Va. -

As the holidays approach, it seems wholesale prices have calmed down a bit after a recent spike following Hurricane Sandy.

According to NADA Used Car Guide, overall wholesale prices are expected to remain flat this week at an average of $14,300.

The organization also shared that price movement this week is expected to remain largely unchanged versus the two-week average.

Though wholesale prices rose slightly after Hurricane Sandy and stayed relatively strong for the month of November, the Thanksgiving holiday week saw a slight downslide in transactions prices.

That said, according to NADA UCG, “wholesale prices have rebounded and leveled off for nearly all segments. Prices continue to remain stronger than what is normally seen during this time of the year.”

While prices are expected to stay relatively flat this week, that biggest jump is expected in the the midsize van segment, which will see prices grow by an average of 0.4 percent, or $50, according to NADA UCG.

Furthermore, the large pickup segment is also slated to increase slightly, as prices are expected to rise by 0.1 percent, or $25.

On the other hand, declines are expected in the midsize utility segment, where prices are expected to drop by an average of 0.2 percent, or $25, per unit.

Large SUVs and luxury cars are expected to fall by 0.1 percent, or $25, apiece, NADA UCG officials added.

All remaining NADA segments are expected to remain flat relative to their two-week average, they concluded.

Four- and two-week AuctionNet wholesale average prices are created by collecting all AuctionNet records for vehicles  up to five years of age for a specified period of time.  Prices are then adjusted for changes in mileage and mix.

Current week prices are based on NADA's proprietary used-vehicle value model which includes assumptions for new-vehicle prices, used-vehicle supply, gasoline prices and other economic factors.
