The wholesale market finished off 2012 at a stable pace, with little to no changes in prices in the lanes,  NADA Used Car Guide said Thursday.

Down by a barely noticeable 0.05 percent, average AuctionNet wholesale prices in December were “essentially unchanged” from November levels as demand for all segments remained strong, NADA UCG officials shared.

And over this first week of January, NADA expected used prices to “deviate little from the prior month's relatively flat trend.”

Its analysts predict that used prices for the current week to remain more-or-less unchanged, with price movement expected to range only between 0.2 percent and 0.3 percent.

In fact, only five NADA segments are expected to see any price movement over the course of the current week, including the compact car segment (-$25), and the large SUV segment (-$75), which is expected to have the largest decline.

And as a whole, the industry average is expected to remain unchanged as well, NADA UCG reported.

“With the immediate concerns of the fiscal cliff behind us, NADA expects to see a gradual uptick in average wholesale prices during the first quarter of this year as early indicators point towards normal seasonal price trends for all segments,” officials concluded.

Four- and two-week AuctionNet wholesale average prices are created by collecting all AuctionNet records for vehicles  up to five years of age for a specified period of time.  Prices are then adjusted for changes in mileage and mix.

Current week prices are based on NADA's proprietary used-vehicle value model which includes assumptions for new-vehicle prices, used-vehicle supply, gasoline prices, and other economic factors.
