McLEAN, Va. -

Wholesale prices are expected to continue softening this week, except for one highline segment, according to NADA Used Car Guide.

Officials said that the luxury car segment is expected to see a “slight uptick” of 0.3 percent, or $75.

“Also on the luxury side, the luxury utility segment is expected to remain flat over the course of the current week,” officials said.

On the other hand, the biggest price drop is expected in the midsize car segment, as prices are expected to drop 1.5 percent, or $175.

In addition, the compact car, large SUV and midsize van segments are all expected to drop by $150 apiece, as fuel rates remain high.

That said, gas prices may be on the way down.

According to Energy Information Administration data released on this week, the average price of regular grade gasoline (all formulations) fell from $3.82 to $3.69.

Moving along, in recent weeks, the truck segments have remained relatively consistent amid recent falling rates in the lanes, and the large pickup segment is expected to only decline slightly by 0.1 percent, or $25.

Lastly, NADA UCG noted the compact utility and midsize utility segments are expected to decline, as well. Drops of $125 and $75 are expected, respectively.

Four- and two-week AuctionNet wholesale average prices are created by collecting all AuctionNet records for vehicles  up to five years of age for a specified period of time. Prices are then adjusted for changes in mileage and mix.

Current week prices are based on NADA's proprietary used-vehicle value model which includes assumptions for new-vehicle prices, used-vehicle supply, gasoline prices, and other economic factors.
