McLEAN, Va. -

After a spring and early summer of falling wholesale prices, NADA Used Car Guide is predicting a shift this week.

For the first time in months, wholesale prices are expected to increase slightly this week, as NADA UCG expects prices to grow by 0.2 percent, or $25, relative to the two-week average.

Leading the increases is the luxury car segment, which is predicted to see price increases of 0.2 percent, or $50.

The midsize car segment is also expected to see growth of 0.2 percent, or $25. And the midsize utility segment is slated to see price appreciation of 0.1 percent, or $25, over the course of the current week.

Compact cars are expected to remain flat versus their price position last week.

On the other hand, the midsize van segment will lead price declines, with an expected drop of 1.1 percent, or $150, this week, and the large SUV segment is expected to drop 0.4 percent, or $100.

The compact utility and luxury utility segments are expected to see declines around 0.2 percent apiece, while the large pickup segment is expected to decline by a slight 0.1 percent, or $25.

These declines among the larger segments may be linked to fuel rates, as Energy Information Administration data released this week shows the average price of regular grade gasoline (all formulations) grew from $3.49 per gallon to $3.64.

Four- and two-week AuctionNet wholesale average prices are created by collecting all AuctionNet records for vehicles  up to five years of age for a specified period of time. Prices are then adjusted for changes in mileage and mix.

Current week prices are based on NADA's proprietary used-vehicle value model which includes assumptions for new-vehicle prices, used-vehicle supply, gasoline prices and other economic factors.
