McLEAN, Va. -

For the second week in a row, NADA is predicting that wholesale prices will see an uptick.

Rates are expected to grow by 0.5 percent, or $75, versus the 2-week average.

This mild movement is in line with recent end-of-year prediction from NADA that Auto Remarketing reported here.

After October’s wholesale price tumble, the rate of decline softened in November to 1.5 percent, according to NADA, and the trend is continuing as December’s auction price movement is predicted to mirror the previous month.

NADA is forecasted that auction prices will fall 1.5 percent this month, matching November’s rate, in the December edition of the Guidelines report.

This prediction comes after November’s decline pushed the NADA seasonally adjusted used vehicle price index to its highest point ever of 125.6.

This week, the biggest price jumps will be seen in the luxury car segment, NADA said, as prices in this segment are predicted to grow by 0.7 percent, or $150.

Large pickups will continue to see strong price retention with an expected uptick of 0.5 percent, or $100, followed by compact utilities with a 0.4-percent ($50) lift in prices.

Midsize cars and midsize utilities are each expected to increase between approximately  0.2 percent to 0.3 percent apiece.

For declines, midsize vans are expected to decline by 0.5 percent, or $50, followed by compact cars with a 0.3-percent ($25 drop).

Large SUVs and luxury utilities are each expected to decline by 0.2 percen,t or $50 apiece.

Four- and two-week AuctionNet wholesale average prices are created by collecting all AuctionNet records for vehicles  up to five years of age for a specified period of time.  Prices are then adjusted for changes in mileage and mix.

Current week prices are based on NADA's proprietary used-vehicle value model which includes assumptions for new-vehicle prices, used-vehicle supply, gasoline prices, and other economic factors.
