Chrysler Group said it will launch a recall to supplement a previous campaign staged to upgrade light-truck axles.

The automaker explained the recall has implications for 361,819 vehicles sold in North America. Affected are 2009 Dodge Durango and Chrysler Aspen SUVs, 2009–2011 Dodge Dakota pickups and 2009–2012 Ram 1500 pickups.

Chrysler indicated some rear axles were assembled with a fastener that can loosen and lead to failure.

“If the rear axle pinion nut loosens, the axle can lock up and cause a loss of vehicle control and/or a vehicle crash with little warning,” officials from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in Washington, D.C., said.

Chrysler said it’s unaware of any associated injuries.

Chrysler's franchised dealers will install a retainer, at no cost to customers, which secures the fastener.

“The supplemental action is being undertaken following Chrysler Group’s review of model years not implicated in the previous campaign,” the OEM said.

According to the automaker and NHTSA, customers will be notified directly if their vehicles are subject to recall beginning next month.
