ATLANTA -

Insurance product company Assurant Specialty Property announced Friday it has teamed up with Cox Automotive’s Flexdrive, an on-demand car program.

Assurant will now be providing insurance coverage for vehicles in the Flexdrive program, which is currently available in Atlanta, Dallas, Austin and Nashville.

“This means drivers in these areas have worry-free access to a car anytime they want, for any purpose,” states a news release announcing the deal. .

How does Flexdrive work? The program offers a weekly or monthly subscription that gives its members the car of their choice, maintenance, roadside assistance — and now, Assurant Specialty Property insurance, as well. Members can also use the Flexdrive mobile app to reserve and switch out cars as their needs change.

“Consumers are demanding affordability and convenience when it comes to mobility as a service, and Flexdrive is uniquely positioned to meet that growing need” said Brian Tribble, senior vice president, Assurant Specialty Property. “A convenient and affordable approach to insurance is essential to this service, and ASP has a track record of partnering with leaders in numerous businesses, from mortgage lending to multifamily housing, to protect consumers.”

Jose Ignacio Puente, general manager of Flexdrive, added: “Mobility is transforming at a rapid pace and requires new solutions and options for consumers. Insurance is a key component in making any new model successful, and this partnership with Assurant enables us to deliver on Flexdrive’s mission to be a convenient, worry-free solution for drivers who want the freedom of transportation without the hassles that come with traditional car ownership.”

Kathy McDonald, president of property solutions at Assurant Specialty Property, explained the rise of the “sharing economy” played a role in the new partnership.

“We’re expanding our reach and scope in the on-demand economy,” said McDonald, “The sharing economy is growing exponentially, and we see a strong opportunity to bring our expertise, from car sharing to vacation rentals.”
