WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J. -

Certified pre-owned sales in May represented the second-strongest month in the history of the CPO market, and beat year-ago figures by more than 19 percent, according to Autodata Corp.

The firm released numbers late Wednesday afternoon, indicating there were 187,044 certified sales in May, which marked a 19.2-percent hike from May 2012.

Dealers have now sold 861,138 CPO vehicles year-to-date, which represents a 14.1-percent hike from the opening five months of 2012.

Autodata said best-ever months were recorded by Ford, Kia, Mini and Subaru.

Domestics commanded a little more than a third of the CPO market (33.6 percent) in May, compared to 31.6 percent last May.

European share was at 15.8 percent, down from 17.4 percent in May 2012.  As for Asian brands, they took 49.5 percent of the CPO market, off from 51.1 percent a year ago.
