SANTA MONICA, Calif. -

As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, Edmunds.com turned its attention to end-of-month used-car sales projections, saying Thursday that it believes November will finish up with about 2.66 million used cars sold.

This would represent a SAAR of 36.5 million.

The November monthly unit sales projection would be decrease from October used-car sales of 3.04 million, but the SAAR for November is nearly 1 million units stronger than October’s (35.4 million).

Through the first three quarters of the year, there was a shade higher than 28 million used sales industry-wide, according to Edmunds’ Used Market Quarterly Report.

This represents a 3.4-percent decrease from the same period of 2012, but Edmunds points out in its analysis that franchised dealer used sales through three quarters were up 7.3 percent at 8.22 million units, “indicating higher lease return and trade volume.”

In the third quarter, franchised dealers moved 2.76 million used vehicles for a 2-percent hike, according to Edmunds.

Drilling down into the firm’s data for the quarter, Edmunds found that the fastest-turning vehicles for franchised in Q3 were compact trucks (33 days to turn), followed by compact cars and midsize traditional SUVs (both at 35).
