Among others making significant progress in the certified pre-owned arena during 2013, some automakers are reporting record years for CPO.

Hyundai, for one, had its best year ever for certified sales, moving 75,941 units. This was an 8.2-percent improvement over 2012 sales.

The program closed the year with 6,029 CPO sales in December, down 6.2 percent from December 2012.

Volkswagen also had its strongest year ever, as it sold 93,622 certified vehicles in 2013 (up 8.63 percent from the previous year).

Its December sales came in at 6,798 units, compared to 7,443 CPO sales in December 2012.  This marked the 23rd straight months of CPO sales reaching at least 6,000 units.

In its earnings report released Friday, BMW Group in the U.S. didn’t break out certified sales results specifically, but did report combined CPO and non-certified used results for its BMW and MINI brands.

Starting with BMW, it had a best-ever year for used (CPO and non-CPO used combined) with 182,219 sales, up from 164,524 in 2012.  

Likewise, MINI reported its best year ever for used (combining CPO and non-CPO). It sold 22,033 units, up from 18,114 the year before.  

At Ford, its brands combined to sell 227,755 certified vehicles in 2013, with 18,319 being sold in December. The Lincoln division moved 21,682 units for the year and Ford/Mercury CPO sales reached 206,073 unit sales in 2013.

Audi sold 40,190 certified vehicles last year, compared to 36,469 in 2012. It sold 4,022 CPO vehicles in December, up from 3,321 a year earlier.

For full-year 2013, Volvo reported 10,143 CPO sales, compared to 11,782 in 2012. Its December sales were at 761 units (down 16.2 percent).

At Mercedes-Benz USA, the Mercedes-Benz Certified Pre-Owned program hit 99,075 sales for the year (up 23.3 percent) and 9,726 sales in December (up 40.0 percent).

Porsche increased its full-year CPO sales from 9,506 units to 10,130 units.
