Auto Remarketing is recognizing the 2022 Women in Remarketing honorees in the May issue of the magazine, and will be posting Q&As with each of these outstanding leaders on the website.

Next up is Anmol Shah, who is account manager in finished vehicles automotive at Norfolk Southern Corporation.

Auto Remarketing: What is the top trend you’re watching in remarketing/wholesale automotive this year?

Anmol Shah: The trend most interesting to me right now is the car ownership environment. It is rapidly changing, mainly based on three key factors. The first being that many OEMs have less and less new vehicle availability at dealerships. Secondly, the idea of lease turnbacks are reducing as more people are trying to buy out their car rather than trading it back. Lastly, the quantity of cars going into the resale market is signifi cantly reducing, driving the value of used cars to skyrocket. With this new found demand, many consumers are realizing that their car has appreciated in value, something that has historically never been the case. I’m curious to see how the market uses creativity to quench the consumer thirst.

AR: How has technology/innovation impacted your specific area of remarketing/wholesale the most?

Shah: Prior to 2020, our company did very little business multi-level business with remarketed customers. Since my arrival, I have used my innovation and understanding of technology to find lanes that align with the remarketed industry needs and onboard new customers. Using rail is a very sustainable option as it is a carbon negative alternative. Choosing to transport any volume of vehicles via rail is attractive as it can generate carbon credits that can offset costs.

AR: What piece of career advice would you have for someone new to the industry?

Shah: My biggest piece of carrier advice I can share with someone new to the remarketed industry is to be up to date with the trends. I enjoy reading Auto Remarketing news multiple times a week to be continuously thinking of new ideas to help the supply chain and off er proactive solutions to be ever ready to assist with any needs customers may have. Also, we women must stick together! Open conversations and mentorships are how we can all bounce ideas off each other and grow our businesses.

AR: What is your proudest moment/accomplishment, career-wise?

Shah: My proudest moment in my career with Norfolk Southern has been able to offer rail services to customers in the remarketed space. Specifically, with State Line Auto Auction. I was able to bridge the transportation gap between two auctions by utilizing a more sustainable option. Opening a different transportation option to a market with such a significant presence in the automotive space is exciting! Using rail is a great balance of being more cost efficient and sustainable!
