SAN JOSE, Calif. -

eBay will be launching a pilot program with online retailer Vroom in the third quarter that will allow Vroom to make formal cash offers on cars listed by select private sellers on eBay Motors.

Tony Hoang, head of vehicles for eBay Motors North America, said in a news release: “eBay continues to enhance its vehicles marketplace by connecting sellers to a broader range of buyers.  This pilot program is another channel for companies such as Vroom to source vehicles directly from private sellers.”

“The program also benefits our private sellers since it provides an additional trusted channel through which to receive a cash offer and conduct a safe and fast transaction,” Hoang said.

Vroom chief revenue officer Scott Chesrown said:  “We’re thrilled to partner with eBay to provide value for its users, in addition to helping us increase our inventory. Many of the cars we sell are purchased from consumers before we fully refurbish them and sell them to Vroom customers, so we’re looking forward to adding cars from eBay Motors users to our inventory.”

When it launches next quarter, the pilot will initially be available only to sellers who haven’t receive or accepted an offer at the end of the listing period, eBay said.

Certain age, mileage and title conditions will apply for vehicle eligibility.
