SAN FRANCISCO -

Online used-car marketplace Shift has expanded to San Diego, the company said in a news release Thursday.

According to its website, Shift is now available in six markets: Los Angeles; Orange County, Calif.; Sacramento; San Diego; its home base of San Francisco; and Washington, D.C.

“We are excited to expand our operations in San Diego and give San Diegans the opportunity to buy cars through the Shift platform,” Shift president Toby Russell said in the release. Russell was named president of the company last month.

“In the 30 months since launching, we've proven that Shift is the way millennials and urban residents want to buy a car,” Russell said. “In fact, more than 50 percent of our customers are millennials. Customers love Shift because our product combines an amazing online experience with an offline test drive that is delivered to the customer’s location, avoiding the need to go to a big box auto sales location in the outer suburbs.”

Shift’s $73 million-plus in total funding includes a $23.8 million Series A round led by DFJ and Highland Capital, and $50 million from a Series B round led by Goldman Sachs Investment partners.
