The National Insurance Crime Bureau released new data on Wednesday that shows the total number of vehicle thefts reported during holidays last year.

Holiday vehicle thieves in 2015 were their busiest on Halloween, 2,238 vehicle thefts were reported according to NICB's 2015 Annual Holiday Vehicle Theft Report.

New Year's Eve day saw 2,227 vehicle thefts.

Though not a holiday, Black Friday — the day after Thanksgiving which is widely viewed as the start of the holiday shopping season — has on average 30 percent more vehicle thefts than the day before. In 2015, there were 2,244 thefts on Black Friday.

Yearly theft information is obtained from the National Crime Information Center's stolen vehicle file which showed a total of 759,237 vehicle thefts in 2015.

The holidays with the fewest thefts were Christmas Day, Thanksgiving, Valentine's Day, President's Day and Independence Day.
