Maybe it’s their electric freshmen Jayson Tatum and Lonzo Ball.

Maybe it’s the nearby tech hubs: the Research Triangle Park in North Carolina and “Silicon Beach” in Southern California.

But when Swapalease.com asked drivers to name the NCAA basketball teams that reminded them the most of a Tesla — and again when respondents were asked to name the hoops squad resembling a driverless car — the most common responses were Duke and UCLA, the respective homes to those fab frosh (at least until they enter the NBA Draft) and neighbors to modern tech meccas. 

After the Blue Devils (13.69 percent) and Bruins (9.24 percent), it was cats and dogs reminding folks of Teslas, with Arizona and Gonzaga each brought up 6.69 percent of the time.

Duke was cited 13.10 percent of the time when folks were asked to name the team reminding them of a driverless car, with UCLA in second (7.35 percent). Zona (6.71 percent) and the Zags (6.39 percent) once again followed.

This tech and hoops connection is just one of several nuggets found in the results of the annual Swapalease.com March Madness Driver Survey released Monday.

Duke and UCLA (and Tesla, for that matter) were quite popular on the survey, as 11.04 percent of respondents thought the Blue Devils would win the NCAA Tournament, which was a higher share than any other school, and 8.36 percent had the Bruins cutting down the nets in April.

UCLA was also cited most often as respondents' favorite team (8.75 percent), with New Jers … err … Duke in second (6.41 percent). 

When asked to choose three from a list of 10 options (which included "other") for car of the year, the Tesla S came up most often (36.65 percent), followed by the BMW 5-Series (22.73 percent) and Audi A5 (20.74 percent).

Swapalease also asked respondents to choose an NCAA team that reminded them of a Fiat. Interestingly enough, the team cited most often was Cincinnati (8.89 percent).

Arizona was second (7.62 percent), followed by Butler (7.30 percent).

Perhaps remembering some classic battles in the NCAA Tournament, respondents cited Duke (14.38 percent) and Kentucky (8.17 percent) the most when asked to say the team reminding them of a classic Chevrolet Corvette, with North Carolina (6.21 percent) and Georgetown (5.88 percent) next on the list.

And though, unfortuantely, they could not steal a win against the Tar Heels in the ACC Tournament, Miami was cited most often when drivers were asked for a team reminding them of a "stolen car." 

Swapalease said more than 2,500 drivers participate in this survey every year.
