Campbell, Calif. -

If you have your heart set on buying an American-made car, you may want to consider where in America you are.

A recent analysis by Carjojo revealed that Texas leads the country in American-car selection, while Michigan is tops in American-made inventory per resident.

Carjojo used data from American University’s recently released 2016 Kogod Made in America index, which determined just how “American” various makes and models really are. The Kogod ranking had the Buick Enclave, Chevy Traverse and GMC Acadia tied for the top spot.

Armed with this information, Carjojo tapped its database of new-vehicle sales data for May and June to determine which states were likely the best places to get a great deal on these “American” vehicles.

In looking at states with the highest number of “most American” vehicles in inventory, and how many of these vehicles are on dealer lots per state, Carjojo found that Texas had the largest inventory of for 15 out of 19 “most American” vehicles: the Buick Enclave and Verano; the Cadillac Escalade and Camaro; the Chevy Cruze Limited, Impala, Malibu, Tahoe and Traverse; the Ford Explorer and F-150; the GMC Acadia, Canyon and Yukon; and the Jeep Wrangler Limited.

Rounding out that list were California (Chevy Colorado) and Michigan (Buick LaCrosse, Chevy Equinox and Ford Taurus).

In terms of which states had the highest American-car inventory per capita, Michigan led this list, having the highest inventory for six of the top 20 vehicles: LaCrosse, Equinox, Malibu, Traverse, Taurus and Acadia.

But Nebraska was the leading state for the Impala and F-150 — so if a shopper wants to buy the Ford F-150, which is the most popular vehicle in the country, Nebraska is likely the best place to go.

Another inventory-heavy state is Michigan for the Equinox and Malibu, and Arizona for the Yukon.

Carjojo also examined which states had the highest number of discounted “most American” vehicles compared to the total number of available vehicles, Georgia was tops with 74 percent of Escalades for sale at a discount. Also notable were large numbers of discounted Camaros in Connecticut (53.3 percent) and the LaCrosses in Arizona (41 percent).
