SANTA MONICA. Calif. -

TrueCar pinpointed the current vehicle segments with the shortest and longest days’ supply as well as the specific 2011 and 2012 models that are struggling to turn and the ones dealers can’t keep in stock.

According to the January 2012 True Trends Report posted Monday, large SUVs, large cars, and large trucks are where the best potential inventory-based discounts will be seen.

On average, large SUVs are staying in inventory for 86 days, while large cars and large trucks are sitting on lots for 73 and 69 days, respectively.

With the average days in inventory at 45 days, subcompact cars are well below that average, settling at 26 days, according to TrueCar.

Analysts also found luxury SUVs at 33 days, small cars at 34 days, and midsize SUVs at 40 days.

When it comes to 2011 models with the shortest days’ inventory level, TrueCar discovered half of the top 10 are made by Toyota, including RAV4, Prius, Corolla, Venza and Matrix. The OEM’s luxury badge, Lexus, also had a model that has a short days’ inventory reading.

Also on the other list from the 2011 model year, vehicles with the longest days’ inventory mostly are from domestic automakers, including Dodge, Buick, Cadillac, Jeep and Ford.

Moving fast among 2012 models is the Cadillac CTS Wagon, which according to TrueCar only has a two days’ inventory level.

Some of the 2012 models sitting on dealer lots for well above average include the Nissan NV, Fiat 500 and Kia Sedona.
