There were 2.10 million used-car transactions in the United Kingdom during the second quarter, which was down 0.7 percent year-over-year, according to revised data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.

As for year-to-date numbers, they have climbed more than a percent. Used-car transactions through two quarters have come in at 4.24 million, which is up 1.3 percent from the 4.18 million in the same period of 2016, according to the society.

In the updated analysis on the SMMT website, chief executive Mike Hawes said: "With used-car sales closely mirroring what we see in the new-car market, last quarter’s moderate decline comes as no surprise — and with demand easing over recent months, this could offer motorists the opportunity to get some great deals.

"However, although the market remains at an exceptionally high level, given the softening we’ve seen in registrations of new cars in more recent months, looking ahead it is vital that government secures the conditions that will maintain consumer and business confidence if we are to see both markets continue to prosper," he said. 

The supermini segment had the biggest share of the used-car market (33.1 percent) during the quarter.

Among individual models, the Ford Fiesta topped the top 10 used-car models in the second quarter, with 93,025 transactions. It was followed by another Ford model, the Focus, with 89,478 transactions.

Two Vauxhall models, the Corsa and Astra, were Nos. 3 and 4, respectively. Rounding out the top five was the Volkswagen Golf. The complete top 10, along with respective sales for each model, is below:
