CARMEL, Ind. -

ADESA’s February wholesale price data reinforced the projection company analysts made a month earlier.

According to ADESA Analytical Services’ monthly analysis of wholesale prices by vehicle model class, used values in February averaged $9,752 — down 2.8 percent compared to January and 1.2 percent relative to February of last year.

The company found that the only segment that showed a month-over-month average price increase last month was mini SUVs, which showed a 1.9-percent rise.

“Wholesale used-vehicle prices fell sequentially and on a year-over-year basis in February, supporting the outlook expressed in last month’s commentary that ‘one can expect wholesale prices to resume the general softening pattern that began around mid-2012 and that was interrupted by Superstorm Sandy,’” ADESA economist Tom Kontos said in his monthly commentary that was released this morning.

Kontos went on to highlight that February prices for used vehicles remarketed by manufacturers were up 1.0 percent year-over-year, tapering considerably from last month’s 7.7 percent year-over-year increase.

“Despite this tapering, off-rental program units are continuing to show price strength,” Konto said. “Prices for fleet/lease consignors were flat year-over-year.”

ADESA noted that prices fell 4.5 percent year-over-year for dealer consignors, and “prices were down on a month-over-month basis for all three seller groups,” according to Kontos.

Kontos wrapped up his latest analysts by recapping CNW Research data, which indicated retail used-vehicle sales in February climbed 11.6 percent year-over-year for franchised dealers and 4.4 percent for independent lots.

Similarly, he pointed out February sales of certified used vehicles were up 5.1 percent versus the prior year based on data from Autodata Corp.
