McLEAN, Va. -

When taking the short Thanksgiving week out of the equation, auction volume in November was nearly 4 percent higher than the total coming through the lanes in the last three weeks of October, according to NADA Used Car Guide.

An AuctionNet data set from NADA in the latest issues of Guidelines indicates that auction volume for 2006 through 2013 model-year units in the first three weeks of November was at 213,688 units. In the last three weeks of October, the volume level was at 205,770 units.

In the report, senior director of vehicle analysis and analytics Jonathan Banks attributes a good chunk of the rise to what turned out to be 10-percent combined growth in units from the 2011(i.e. off-lease units) and 2013 (rental fleet cars) model years.

“The growth in ’13 model-year volume was largely the product of the rise in midsize van supply … along with increases of 19 percent and 22 percent in the number of midsize utility, large pickup and midsize cars entering the lanes,” he said in the report.

“Notable supply growth for the ’11 model year was more dispersed across segments, with luxury utilities (up 28 percent) and large cars (up 27 percent) leading the way.”

Breaking the figures down further, NADA found that for the first three weeks of November:

•    Auction volume of model-year 2006 and 2007 vehicles was at 50,359 units (up 2.6 percent from last three weeks of October)

•    Auction volume of model-year 2008 and 2009 vehicles was 35,104 units (up 4.6 percent)

•    Auction volume of model-year 2010 and 2011 vehicles was 60,565 units (up 4.3 percent)

•    Auction volume of model-year 2012 and 2013 vehicles was 67,660 units (up 4.5 percent)
