As more automakers report results from March, the certified pre-owned market is looking stronger and stronger.

The combined certified sales in March for the Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac brands at General Motors, for example, jumped nearly 12 percent year-over-year.

Specifically, they combined to move 33,047 CPO units, which was their best March sales total in five years.

First-quarter CPO sales for these brands reached 86,525 units, up 10.6 percent from the same period of 2012.

Over at Kia, the company reported 2,800 certified sales last month, which marked a 61.4-percent hike. Through three months, it has sold 7,081 units, marking a 68.4-percent rise.

Meanwhile, Mazda achieved its best CPO month ever moving 3,390 units for close to a 56-percent year-over-year improvement. This pushed year-to-date sales to 8,588 units, which is a 52.1-percent hike from the year-ago period.

Not only did Mazda celebrate a record month sales-wise, the program has its best-ever enrollment numbers and a record count of active participants, said Roger Basa, the company's manager of CPO and remarketing. What's more, the percent of enrolled dealers who are active has never been higher.

It wasn't alone in the record-breaking.

Volkswagen wrapped up its best-ever first-quarter performance in the certified pre-owned market with its strongest month of all-time. Hyundai also celebrated its best month ever, moving 6,715 CPO units.

At VW, the company moved 9,126 CPO rides last month , compared to 8,334 CPO sales in March 2012.  Through three months, its certified sales have climbed 11.6 percent at 23,751 units – an all-time best for the first quarter.

For Hyundai, its best-ever month was a 1.3-percent upswing from March 2012. Through three months, it has sold 17,734 CPO vehicles for a 7.9-percent gain.

Audi sold 3,425 certified units in March, versus 3,351 in the same period a year ago. Its year-to-date sales stand at 9,054, up from 8,786 certified sales in the first quarter of 2012.

Over at Ford, combined sales for all CPO brands came in at 19,307 units in March, with first-quarter sales at 50,279.

By division, there were 17,465 Ford/Mercury CPO sales in March and 45,415 year-to-date. For Lincoln, CPO sales hit 1,842 units for March and 4,864 units for the first quarter.

As for Lexus, it moved 6,630 certified vehicles in March, compared to 6,605 in March 2012.

First-quarter CPO sales reached 17,280 vehicles, against 17,803 in the year-ago period.

Volvo moved 1,027 CPO units for the month, versus 1,046 a year ago. Through March, it has sold 2,825 units, compared to 2,830 in the year-ago period.
