AutoCanada is making some Thunder in its collision repair business.
The dealer group said Wednesday it has acquired Mascarin Collision Centre in Thunder Bay, Ontario, giving AutoCanada its first collision repair presence in the city.
Calling it a “key gateway to Northern Canada,” AutoCanada said the addition of Mascarin gives the retailer “a platform for future growth in a region expected to benefit from investment in natural resource development and northern defence and logistics initiatives.”
It also brings roughly 20,000-square-feet of additional collision repair capacity and OEM certifications across over 10 brands, including Volkswagen, Honda, Toyota, Ford, General Motors, and Subaru. In fact, Mascarin – which has has served Thunder Bay and Northwestern Ontario for 65 years – is the only GM-certified collision facility in that region of the province, AutoCanada said.
“Mascarin Collision Centre is an excellent addition to our growing collision platform,” AutoCanada CEO and interim chief financial officer Samuel Cochrane said in a news release.
“The business has built a trusted reputation over decades of serving customers and maintaining strong relationships with insurers and OEM partners. Its experienced team, strong market position, and OEM-certified capabilities provide a solid foundation for future growth,” Cochrane said.

Mascarin will retain its local team.
Earlier this week, AutoCanada boosted its capacity to complete vehicle repairs in Alberta.
On Monday, the company announced the completion of its acquisition of Contemporary Coachworks, a two-location collision repair business based in Calgary.
Back in January, AutoCanada acquired Modern Autobody, a single-location collision and refinish repair facility that has been operating in Edmonton for more than 50 years.
