Byrider definitely has something cookin’ with its board of directors.
The buy-here, pay-here dealership network and franchisor recently announced the appointment of seasoned franchise executive John Miller to its board.
Miller is the former president and chief executive officer and director of Denny’s Corp. According to a news release, Denny’s operates approximately 1,300 franchise locations.
As CEO from 2011 to 2022, Miller led a successful turnaround of the historic brand, continuously improving same-store sales and franchisee satisfaction.
Prior to joining Denny’s, Miller served as chief executive officer of Taco Bueno Restaurants from 2005 to 2011. He also spent 17 years with Brinker International where he held numerous management positions including president of Romano’s Macaroni Grill, president of Brinker’s Mexican Concepts (overseeing On The Border and Cozymel’s) and vice president of franchising for the Chili’s brand.
In addition to his leadership roles, Miller is also a franchisee of several restaurant businesses, including Whataburger, giving him firsthand insight into the opportunities and challenges that today’s franchise owners face.

“What attracted me to Byrider was the alignment across the organization and the genuine desire to become a franchisor of choice. The leadership team has already established an impressive culture and a strong foundation for growth that I look forward to building on,” Miller said in the news release. “I’ve learned throughout my career that when everyone is rowing in the same direction, great things can happen, and I see that mindset throughout this organization.
“The opportunity ahead is significant and I’m excited to contribute my franchise experience and support the Byrider team as they continue expanding the business and creating opportunities for franchisees nationwide,” he continued.
Byrider added that Miller’s appointment comes as the used-car retailer continues investing in the leadership, technology and franchise infrastructure needed in its next phase of growth.
Most recently, the company opened a new franchise support center located at 111 Congressional Blvd. in Carmel, Ind. The facility brings together key functions across operations, training, development and franchise support under one roof.
Together, the company said the board appointment and new support center underscore Byrider’s ongoing commitment to thoughtful growth and operational excellence.
“John has spent his career scaling brands successfully while building strong relationships with franchisees, and that perspective will be invaluable as Byrider continues to evolve,” said Sean Garber, chairman of the Byrider board of directors. “Combined with the opening of our new Franchise Support Center, these investments reflect the work we’ve put in over the last several years to strengthen the foundation of our business.”
Byrider is currently awarding franchises to auto industry veterans; banking and finance professionals who understand credit and collections; and multi-unit retail or restaurant operators looking to diversify into a different category.
