As a member of the National Auto Auction Association, The Great Northern Auction is one of some 340 auctions.

As a Canadian independent auto auction in NAAA, it stands alone.

TGNA, located in Moncton, New Brunswick, has become Canada’s only independent auction with NAAA membership. It serves the Maritime provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.

The family-operated auction was founded in 2001 as a public auction and later added dealer-only sales to create what it calls “a dual-marketplace model” with a weekly dealer-only auction and a weekly public sale, giving consignors multiple buying pools and more chances at full recovery.

“Our team worked hard to build a marketplace where buyers show up, sellers get straight answers and vehicles bring what they’re worth,” CEO Sean Liptay said. “Stepping into our 25th year, now under the NAAA umbrella, tells the market exactly what we represent — a professional, transparent live marketplace backed by standards that match the biggest remarketing operations on the continent.”

In a news release, TGNA said it serves more than 90% of the franchise dealerships within 100 kilometers, with a consistent sale rate of 70% or higher and a 2.25-to-1 bidder-to-vehicle ratio, along with an arbitration rate of less than 1%.

The auction said its new status as an NAAA member shows it provides a “credible, standards-aligned alternative” for lenders, fleets and financial institutions “built on real people, real accountability and real market results.”

It offers a “true full-service remarketing environment,” including towing and transportation throughout the Maritimes, storage for repossessions, fleet units and specialty assets, full reconditioning services, standardized condition reports with local market analysis, and a bilingual staff.

“Being independent means we stay close to the market,” chief operating officer Mary Liptay said. “Our consignors know they can call and get answers. As we grow, we’re bringing that same level of care to commercial and financial institutions that want a local partner that’s connected, transparent and invested in doing the job right.”
